Magic mushrooms legalized in Oregon
It’s been a painful week watching our US neighbours navigate their election, but rather than dwell on the negative stuff we’re going to share the good news coming out of the voting booths – progress on legalization!
Decriminalization of ALL drugs – in a bold move the state of Oregon has voted to decriminalize possession of small amounts of most “hard” drugs, a category that magic mushrooms, which contain psilocybin, have been lumped in with. It’s a progressive move, and similar to what Portugal, the Netherlands and Switzerland have done already with success.
The legal cannabis club – Arizona, Montana, New Jersey and South Dakota now join 11 other states to legalize the use of cannabis. The disproportionately harmful war on drugs is looking to be breathing its last breaths, as states realize how much more harmful the war has been than the drugs themselves.
Regardless of our individual feelings about how some of these drugs should be used recreationally, the benefit these measures will bring to people in therapeutic need is real.
